Calculating materials before buying helps avoid waste and unnecessary store trips

CalcolaDIY helps estimate quantity and waste for paint, tiles and parquet using real room measurements. You can add multiple rooms, handle rectangular or L-shaped spaces and include secondary materials such as primer, adhesive, grout, skirting boards and underlay.

Quantities are intended as a practical starting point for shopping in store or comparing products online. For final work, always check the manufacturer datasheet: paint coverage, real tile size, m² per pack and laying pattern can change the result.

Paint

Measure perimeter and height, subtract doors/windows, multiply by coats and divide by the coverage in m²/L.

Tiles

Calculate net m², add 10–15% waste and always round up to full boxes.

Parquet

Add waste for cuts and laying direction, then divide by the m² covered by each pack.

Frequently asked questions

For walls only, without subtracting openings: 16 m perimeter × 2.7 m = 43.2 m². With 2 coats, coverage of 12 m²/L per coat and a 10% margin, you need 7.92 L, about 8 L. Calculate the ceiling separately.
10% for straight laying and 15% for diagonal laying are indicative starting points, not universal minimums. Choose waste based on tile size, layout and cutting plan, then round up to whole boxes.
Click "L-shape" on the room card and enter sections A and B separately. The calculator adds the areas and estimates the perimeter for skirting and secondary materials.
Enter the coats specified in the product data sheet for your surface and chosen colour. Calculate primer separately from the finish; colour changes and absorbent surfaces may require different preparation.
Use the total kg/m² consumption specified in the product data sheet for the intended installation. The initial 4 kg/m² is editable, not a universal consumption rate. If the stated rate already includes adhesive on both surfaces, do not double it.
Multiply the area by (1 + waste/100), divide by m² per pack and round up. For example, 20 m² with 10% waste and 2.2 m² per pack requires 10 packs. Check waste against the laying plan.
Check the primer and finish data sheets for your surface: plaster, drywall and previously painted walls need different preparation. Primer has its own coverage and does not count as a finish coat.
Calculate the perimeter, subtract door widths and add your chosen margin. Divide by the length of one board and round up. Check the estimate against the cutting plan.
