Count whole packs
Required area = net floor area × (1 + waste/100)
Packs = round up (required area ÷ coverage per pack)
The result also shows the area contained in all purchased packs. Any final-pack surplus is separate from the waste allowance. Enter the net floor area so the allowance is applied only once.
20 m² with packs covering 2.16 m²
With 7% waste, the required area is 21.4 m². Dividing by 2.16 gives approximately 9.91, so buy 10 packs, covering 21.6 m². The 1.6 m² above the net area includes the selected allowance and the extra area from buying a whole pack.
Measure the room
A rectangular floor is length × width. Split an L-shaped floor into non-overlapping rectangles and add their areas. Alcoves and other areas to be covered belong in the net measurement. The multi-room project supports adjacent rectangles and direct entry of an already measured area.
Use the actual pack coverage
Pack sizes differ between products. Use the stated coverage of the exact flooring you intend to buy, rather than a generic plank count. Layout, direction and reusable offcuts affect waste; check the manufacturer’s guidance for the chosen installation.
Prepare the rest of the floor
Floating and glued installations have different accessories. Underlay, moisture protection, adhesives and edge details should follow the selected system. Skirting is measured in linear metres around the perimeter, after subtracting the openings where it will not be installed; it cannot be derived from floor area alone.
